Beaufort Court
Client: Peabody Trust Contractor: Rok Llewellyn Architect: Feilden Clegg Bradley Value: £7,494,790 Contract: PPC2000
65 Dwellings consisting of 28 social rental, 14 key worker rental, 19 shared ownership, 4 rough sleepers initiative. Completed July 2003.
It is high density, energy efficient, and innovative in construction. The houses and flats and maisonettes range in size and are arranged in three blocks round a communal area. There is an all-weather sports court, with car parking underneath.
The construction process was innovative. For the first time in the UK, the process brought together three off-site fabrication processes into one scheme. With steel load bearing systems, steel panels and prefabricated bathrooms, construction was entirely dry except for ground works. Energy efficiency, and thermal and sound insulation all exceed current standards.
The project has won several awards including the Housing Corporation’s Best Example of Affordable Housing 2004.
